What is Outreach?
The Organizing/Outreach program provides education and information about LBT domestic violence and The Network/La Red's services through a variety of ways.
What are some of the ways Outreach is done?
Develop and distribute community flyers and brochures. Present at workshops, trainings, or panels. Set up information tables at Pride events, community events, community roundtables, volunteer, & health fairs. Develop advertising material for statewide campaign, produce newsletters, maintain and update web site. Write articles, press releases, direct mail pieces, and letters to the editor. Collect news articles pertaining to LBT domestic violence. Develop and produce events, videos, or radio spots.
Who do I outreach to?
The Network/La Red outreaches to a variety of groups such as: GLBT organizations, social groups, and activist groups, college and high school gay/straight alliances, GLBT events, bars, clubs, coffee houses, and bookstores, mainstream domestic violence and sexual assault programs, medical and health organizations, law enforcement, lawyers, law schools, court victim/witness advocates, district attorney's offices, community roundtables, GLBT, and mainstream conferences.
Do I have to be available during the day to do outreach?
No, events, workshops and presentations also happen in the evenings or on weekends.
All volunteers of The Network/La Red participate in our free training program. Aside from discussing the dynamics of LGBT partner abuse, the training also covers issues such as confronting oppression, listening skills, and legal issues. There is an additional free training to become Partner Abuse Community Educator. Fill out a volunteer application today.
